writing

writing a story as an outline
going back and filling in the
story.

writing an outline
in sentences.

going back and filling in the
sentences into paragraphs.

let's see for example.

girl gets up
girl goes to bathroom
girl brushes teeth
girl watches water go down the drain.
girl looks in the mirror.

girl relieves herself.
lid is up.
girl lives alone.

girl goes to the kitchen
girl turns on the light
girl calls kitty.

girl steps in something sticky.

girl mumbles
girl turns on the radio.

girl scratches head.
girl sees reflection in toaster

girl closes eyes.

phone rings.

she pauses
does not answer.

girl gets dressed.
closet full of shoes
twenty pairs in all
takes time in selecting pair

girl goes back to kitchen
tea kettle is whistling
pours herself a cup of tea in procelain cup and saucer

meditatively drinks tea
fills cat dish
picks up handbag
leaves
locks door.

on the fourth floor
no elevator
door across from her is adjar.

hears another door slam at the end of the hallway.
hears fire alarm goes off.

grabbed hat and coat
blue peajacket
in jeans
with boots
and a purble sweater with a cowl neck.

snowing outside.
in new york

it's saturday
and she is on her way to the soup kitchen
to set up for breakfast
on broadway.

people call her the sister
she's black
her name is meghan
she's 28
brown copper skin
tall and slim
proportionately filled
long legs
slender hands

a camel coat belted.
just below the knee
a man watches her.

hair pulled back from her face
and worn in a bun tied in a small
knot in the back of her head.

a colored silk scar peeks out from her
right pocket coat.

it's dark out
she opens up the front apartment door
steps out
into a street that is still dark

she walks confidently down the street
receives a nod from the person in the
doorway.

it's around 5:30
she's a familiar figure in the neighborhood
and the word on the street is she is protected
no touch, and no harm is to come her way

walks the six blocks to the soup kitchen
has the key to the front door.

light is starting to break through as she
pulls back the black gate that blocks the
entrance to the front door and the gate rattles
in the quiet of the early morning.

someone comes up behind her
whispers in her ear
she sees the camel coat from corner
of her eye

she pulls out her key
and turns the lock.

the two individuals go inside

there is a hushed conversation.
go to the back room.

strips her of her clothes
drizzles her with chocolate syrup
she laughs
he smacks her on the buttocks.

he unties her hair from the back
of her head
and her black shiny hair tumbles to her shoulders

he grabs her by the neck
and brings her face close to his
he starts to massage her throat
and then turns her around
her buttocks are up against
the zipper of his jeans
and he has one arm around her waist
and the other hand is circling her neck
her head is thrown back
and her arms are wrapped around the man's arm
which is tightly wound around her stomach

umm
ummm

she can't talk
starting to lose her breath.
