i looked in the mirror and i saw.

the heart is an organ of spiritual perception which changes your
ultimate and immediate reality.

the old nun with the white hair and silver tipped
cane came into the lunchroom and pulled out the
light yellow chair from the table.

there were ten tables in all and when filled to capacity
the lunchroom fit about 50 people.

right now the lunchroom was empty.

the table was brown and rectangular and a long as the
bay window in which it sat in front of.

there was a small white glass vase set on a white starred dolie
in the middle of the table and there were daisies that
looked like they were picked from the garden and whose petals were
and branches were spreading up and out from the small lip of the vase.

the window was as rectangular as the table
and the old nun wondered if they had done that on purpose
that is fit the table to the lenght of the window.

these nuns were smart she thought to herself and always
did things for a reason or so it seemed to her

odd, that she had never had that thought before.

what does it matter she murmured

the young nun who was arranging the salt and paper shaker and
making sure there was enough sugar in the glass bowl on the
table thought she herad the old nun speak.

sister, did you say something?"

sister dorothy heard her, but paid her no mind. she realized
she must have talked out loud but she just shook her head.

sister, can you hear me?

I heard you she replied.

the young nun waited for some additional comment to come forth
but seeing that the old nun was intent on looking out the rectangular
window she said nothing more.

she didn't want to invade sister's space.

but the young nun thought to herself
how she could sit there looking out that window sometimes for hours
was beyond her.

the place used to be a school for young girls and had been
filled with the laughter and chatter of prebuscent and
teenage girls as they romped through the halls and
foyers of the old place or huddled in groups of three
and four as only young girls could.

sister dorothy was the oldest nun there
some say she was 95, but sometimes when you got her in a mood
for talking she insisted she was only 89, but
she'd been 89 for a couple of years now and the younger
sisters those who were now in their 40's let her be.
