the two girls hugged each other one more time
and then held hands as the walked up the five
steps that led to celia's front door.

jim mason rasing his living room shade across the street
to let the rest of the afternoon light in saw
two girls walking up the steps to celias house
and they seemed to be surrounded by a steamy halo
that bounced off and floated in a circular motion
around their bodies.

it was just the mist and the rain and the heat
he murmured, but there definitely was something strange
about those two girls.

and he shookd his head up and down in agreement with himself,
each time his
head went up slower and came down slower,

jim's wife martha was looking at her husband from the
kitchen and her first impression was that his head was
doing some kind of slow motion dance up and down up and down it
went.

yes, jim murmured to himself in a whisper there is something strange about
those two girls.

then out loud he said mark my words jim, there is something to be told
about them two, and with that he turned away from the
window and he hadn't taken a step or two when the
living room shade shot up and hit the top of the
two tiered window with a bang.

and his wife standing in the kitchen drying a white rimed blue plate
was so startled that she dropped the plate and it shattered in all
different directions on her nice blue and white linoleum kitchen floor.

meanwhile celia and meghan reached the top step and celia's mother opened
the door.

she was a nice looking woman in her late 40's, wore her hair in a short curl
and had kind green eyes.

meghan always noticed her eyes.
they were so alive and merry
but sometimes meghan would catch her looking at her and celia
with a hesitation look.

meghan senses she wanted to ask something, but she seemed to hold back.

well, maybe one day, mrs. phillips celia's mother would speak her mind.
till then meghan would just hold her tongue.

all she said, was good evening mrs. phillips, celia and i are going
to practice our song.

come in meghan
come in, and get out of this wet weather.

you two girls
are something else.

the piano is all tuned up and waiting for the two of you.
celia's been playing and practicing this past half hour
so i am sure you have a lot of catching up to do.

go on in the both of you and i'll bring some cool lemonade.
